Indian soldiers confronted the Chinese army after recent tensions with Pakistan.
Old viral video shared as recent.
Claim
Indian soldiers confronted the Chinese army after recent tensions with Pakistan.
Fact
No, the viral video is old.
A video allegedly showing the Indian Army arguing with Chinese soldiers after the recent tensions with Pakistan is going viral on TikTok.
India and Pakistan engaged in four days of intense fighting with fighter jets, missiles and drones before agreeing to a ceasefire on May 10. Tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours escalated following a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22 in which 26 people including a Nepali were killed. The tension escalated after India responded with Operation Sindoor, targeting terror-related sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Against this backdrop, TikTok user @rameshthapamagar123 posted a video showing a negotiation between Indian Army personnel and Chinese soldiers. In the video, a Chinese commander is heard saying, “Only my request, I give my request.” In response, an Indian army commander says, “All are body guards.” A background voice-over says, “Nepal’s southern neighbor India is having rocky relations with all its neighbours. India’s relations with Pakistan with which it recently fought a war have been full of tensions for centuries. India also has disputes along 3488 km of borders with China from Arunanchal to Ladakh. Shortly after its fight with Pakistan, India has now come face-to-face with China after China claimed and claimed and renamed certain territory of Arunanchal. Though India has objected to China’s move, India is not going to back down. Rather China has deployed a huge troop of its soldiers equipped with modern weapons.” Text superimposed on the video reads, “After a fresh battle with Pakistan, India is now faced with China.”
The video posted on May 20 has garnered 17.4k likes, 396 users have shared it and 338 people have commented until the last count.
The archived version of the TikTok video can be seen here.
Newschecker found the claim to be misleading.
To check the veracity of the claim made in the viral video, News-checker split the video into several key frames and ran a reverse search on it. The search threw up several results matching the viral clip.
We found an X (formerly twitter) post by one handle named Dany carrying several photos of a face-off between Chinese and Indian soldiers. One of the images carried in the post, dated November 12, 2024, closely resembled the viral video. However, the image seemed laterally inverted in comparison to the frame from the viral video.
Further, we found another video, dated November 16, 2024, posted on a YouTube channel named Prince Official. On checking the video titled ‘Indian Army beating Chinese troops”, we found that the footage from 3:00-minute onwards exactly matched the viral video. Notably, the footage carried in the video was also inverted in comparison to the viral clip.
We also found an article, dated Nov 12, 2024, titled ‘videos of Indian army beating Chinese PLA soldiers go viral’ published on Zee News. On checking the article, we noticed an image carried in it resembling the frame from the viral video. However, the article noted that the army uniform hints that they were from summer.
Regardless of the origin of the video, Newschecker found the viral clip doesn’t show a recent confrontation between the armies of India and China. The video is old and it doesn’t show India’s face-off with China after the May 10 ceasefire with China.
No, the viral video doesn’t show a recent confrontation between the Indian army and Chinese soldiers after May. The viral video is old, and thus misleading.
