Claim
First lady Radhika Shakya said KP Oli is a good-for-nothing person.
Fact
Viral video is clipped.
A video allegedly showing Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s wife Radhika Shakya saying that “KP Sharma is a very lazy person and does nothing” is going viral on TikTok.
TikTok user @rabilamichhane75 posted a video showing Nepal’s first lady Radhika Shakya speaking at a formal programme. In the 9-second video, Shakya is heard saying, “KP Oli is good-for-nothing and he doesn’t carry small stuff from one place to another.” Text superimposed on the video reads, “Oli’s wife herself called him a lazybone.”
The video posted on February 22 has garnered 2031 likes, 158 users have commented and 517 users have shared it and 158 people have commented until the time of publishing this article.
Newschecker found the claim to be misleading.
Fact Check /Verification
To check the veracity of the claim made in the viral video, Newschecker split the video into several key frames and ran reverse searches on them. A Google reverse search on a frame from the viral video threw up several results matching the viral video.
On checking a video, dated February 22, 2025, posted on the YouTube channel named Hulak Sanchar, we found that the video from 16:15-minute to 16:24-minute exactly matched the viral clip. However, the longer version of the video showed Radhika recalling how KP Oli’s detractors called him a very lazy person. “I have been hearing such comments about KP Oli in the past and even in the present,” Shakya is heard saying. She goes on to say that Oli is one of the most active people in the world. “For instance, he [Oli ] has been working since yesterday morning till 4 am this morning.” She was rather defending Oli against his critics.
We also found another video, dated February 22, 2025, of the same event posted on the YouTube channel of Kantipur Television. The video from 14:08-minute onwards exactly matched the viral clip. On checking the entire video, we found that the video actually showed Shaky speaking during the release of her book ‘Karuna’ at an event in Kathmandu.
On digging further, we found an article, dated February 22, 2025, published on Nepal Live online. The article covered the book release of Shakya at an event in Kathmandu. The event also coincided with the 37th marriage anniversary of KP Oli and Radhika Shakya.
Thus, our findings clearly indicated the viral video lacks the context of Radhika Shakya’s words.
Conclusion
No, the first lady didn’t call her husband Oli a lazy person. The viral video is clipped and shared without the context in a misleading manner.
Result: Missing Context
