Britain issued an ultimatum to India on the Kalapani border dispute with Nepal.

No, Britain has not issued any ultimatum to India regarding any disputed territory between Nepal and India.
A video allegedly showing a news clip that Britain has issued an ultimatum to India demanding a swift return of Kalapani and Lipulekh to Nepal is going viral on TikTok.
The video is going viral at a time when the territorial dispute between Nepal and India at the northwestern tip of Nepal has come to the fore after India announced plans to resume the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra via Lipulekh Pass.
On May 3, Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued diplomatic notes to both India and China, reaffirming that Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh, and Kalapani are integral parts of Nepal under the 1816 Sugauli Treaty. While India’s Ministry of External Affairs quickly rejected Nepal’s claim calling it unjustified and insisting that the route has been in used since 1954.
Against this backdrop, TikTok user @tribhuvanreviewpoint posted a video carrying two videos. In one of the two clips, a person is heard saying in Hindi, “Nepal is set to receive good news that Kalapani will be returned back to Nepal from India.” Text superimposed on the video reads, “Good News Kalapani return.”

The video carries another English news clip in which the anchor says, “We are following breaking news where Britain has issued an ultimatum to India demanding a swift return of Kalapani and Lipulekh to Nepal.” Text superimposed on the video reads, “British Army issued an ultimatum to India. “
The video posted on May 11 has garnered 7793 likes, 996 users have shared it and 366 people have commented until the last count.
Newscheker found the claim to be misleading.
To check the veracity of the claim, Newschecker searched for reports regarding Britain’s ultimatum to India on the border dispute between Nepal and India. However, the search did not yield any credible reports. We found no evidence distantly referring that Britain has ever spoken or mentioned its position on the Kalapani-Lipulekh dispute between Nepal and India.
During our search regarding We found a news article, dated May 5, 2026 published on Kathmandu Post online quoting Gao Liang, the vice director of Nepal Study Centre at the Institute of South Asian Studies in Sichuan University, saying that the border dispute is bilateral between Nepal and India and should be resolved through direct talks.
We then separated the news clip from the narration video and checked it through hive moderation and the result indicated that the video is 73.1% likely to be generated by using AI.

We downloaded the audio and checked it through Resemble AI which indicated that the audio is fake.

We also checked that video through another AI detection tool Truth Scan which indicated that the video is 88 percent likely to be generated by AI.

Thus, our findings clearly showed the video is generated by using AI.
No, Britain has not issued any statement regarding the disputed territory between Nepal and India let alone issuing an ultimatum regarding a bilateral matter. The viral video is clearly generated by AI. Thus, the viral claim is misleading.
