Claim
China imposed blockade to Nepal after Home Minister Sudan Gurung visited Tatopani border for monitoring.
Fact
The viral claim is false.
Several videos claiming that China has imposed a blockade to Nepal after Home Minister Sudan Gurung monitored Nepal-China border at Tatopani are going viral on social media.
Founder of Hami Nepal, Sudhan Gurung, rose to prominence during the September 8-9 Gen Z movement, and was elected from Gorkha-2 on Rastriya Swatantra Party ticket. He was appointed as the Home Minister in the new cabinet under Balendra Shah.
Against this backdrop, TikTok user @nobeenk posted a video showing a news clip in which the news presenter says, “China has imposed a blockade immediately after Home Minister Sudan Gurung visited Tatopani border for monitoring. China imposed an undeclared blockade to the containers entering Nepal immediately after Gurung monitored Tatopani customs before taking over the reins of the Home Ministry. The customs office has said that China has released only three or four containers after Gurung’s monitoring. China took the steps after Gurung stood in support of good governance and transparency.” Text superimposed on the video reads, “China has become strict at its border with Nepal after Sudan Gurung’s anarchic step.”

The video posted on March 30 has garnered 3035 likes, 150 users have shared it and 26 people have commented on it. The archived version of the TikTok video can be seen here.
Likewise, another Facebook account named Anjan Khadka posted a video on his Facebook page in which he said China has imposed a blockade after Sudan Gurung monitored the customs office at Tatopani. Another Facebook user named Deepshikha Sharma posted the same claim.

Newschecker found the claim to be misleading.
To check the veracity of the claim, Newschecker ran a search for news regarding Home Minister Sudan Gurung’s visit to Tatopani Custom’s office after his appointment as Home Minister. However, we didn’t find any credible news regarding Home Minister Gurung’s visit to Tatopani Customs office after his appointment as Home Minister.
On searching further, we found a video, dated March 15, 2026, posted by one Facebook account named ‘Ningman Thilen’ The video caption read that Gurung observed Tatopani customs office at Nepal-China border.

Notably, Gurung had not been appointed as Home Minister and there were no clues or even speculation that Gurung would be appointed as Home Minister when he visited Tatopani customs office. Gurung was sworn-in as the Home Minister on March 27.
We then reached out to Rajendra Prasad Chudal, Chief Officer at Tatopani Customs Office, who said that the claim is not true. He added that Gurung has not visited the customs after his appointment as Home Minister saying that he had visited the customs on March 15.
Thus, our findings clearly indicated that the viral claim that China has imposed an unofficial blockade after Home Minister Sudan Gurung’s visit to Tatopani customs office is false.
No, China has not imposed any blockade to Nepal after Home Minister Sudan Gurung’s visit to Tatopani border customs. In fact, Gurung had visited the customs on March 15 in his capacity as newly elected lawmaker. The viral video is exaggerated and false.
