Nepali Communist Party (NCP) coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' diagnosed with rare Parkinson's disease.
No, Prachanda was admitted to hospital for respiratory illness. The viral video is false.
A video claiming that former prime minister and coordinator of Nepali Communist Party (NCP) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has been diagnosed with a rare Parkinson’s disease similar to his wife Sita Dahal.
The video has gone viral amid news reports that Dahal has been hospitalised.
TikTok user @restoring47 posted a video carrying a photo of Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and his deceased wife Sita Dahal. Text superimposed on the video reads, “It has been revealed that Prachanda has been diagnosed with a rare Parkinson’s disease similar to disease suffered by late Sita Dahal.”
The video posted on May 31 has garnered 3426 likes, 245 users have shared it and 327 people have commented until the last count.
Newschecker found the claim to be false.
To check the veracity, Newschecker ran a search for the news about NCP coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s health condition. The search led us to several news reports, dated May 31, 2026, confirming that Dahal was admitted to Mediciti Hospital and was receiving treatment for a pneumonia infection.
On checking a news article published on the Rising Nepal reported that Prachanda was admitted to the hospital on May 30, quoting a health bulletin issued by Nepal Mediciti Hospital.
We also found another news article on the health condition of Pushpa Kamal Dahal posted on Nepal Press online. The article, carrying a photo of Dahal in a hospital bed and health bulletin issued by Mediciti Hospital, noted that Dahal had a mild pneumonia infection but has been responding well to the treatment.
Further, we reached out to Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s personal aide Govinda Acharya, who said Dahal was admitted to the hospital on Saturday after he had a fever and common cold. “Dahal has been discharged from the hospital and is being given antibiotics for pneumonia and recovering well,” said Acharya, denying the claim that Prachanda has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
Thus, our findings clearly showed that the viral claim is misleading.
