Claim
Bollywood Actor Shah Rukh Khan said he likes Nepali artist Daya Hang Rai and Kabaddi is his favourite Nepali movie.
Fact
The viral clip is a deepfake.
A video allegedly showing Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan saying that he watches Nepali and he likes Nepali artist Daya Hang Rai and Kabaddi is his favourite movie is going viral on TikTok.
TikTok user @speed8817 posted a video showing an interview of Shah Rukh Khan talking in English about Nepali movies and artists.

In the viral video, a show host asks, “Shah Rukh, I have one question for you. Do you watch Nepali movies?” In response, Shah Rukh says, “Yes, I do watch Nepali movies. I really like Daya Hang Rai, he is a very good actor. My favourite movie is Kabaddi. It’s a very good film. In the future, maybe I will even act in a Nepal movie, who knows.” Text superimposed on the video reads, “Shah Rukh Khan likes Daya Hang Rai.”
The video posted on November 18 has garnered 6813 likes, 920 people have shared it and 244 people have commented until the last count.
Newschecker found the claim to be deepfake.
To check the veracity of the claim, Newschecker split the video into several key frames and ran reverse searches on them. A Google reverse search on it threw up several videos and images resembling the viral video.
On checking a three-minute-long video, dated Aug 7, 2017, posted on the YouTube channel named SRKInOurVeins, we found that the video showed Bollywood star Khan and his director Imtiaz Ali talking about nepotism controversy of Karan Johar and Kangana Ranaut. We also noticed the gesture of the interviewer resembling the first few seconds of the viral video. In YouTube video, the host says in Hindi, “You three are those who have established their positions without any backing. How do you feel from your platform when you see three self-entitled people who bully Kangana Ranaut?”
We also found another article, dated Feb 16, 2022, posted on DNA India regarding Shah Rukh Khan’s take on Kangana Ranaut-Karan nepotism controversy with a throwback video. The article carried the same video.
Further, we found another14-minute long video, dated August 2, 2017, posted on the YouTube channel named ‘Filmy Monkey Live Stream’. On checking the entire video, we found the host asking personal questions to three guests before finally wrapping his show with the question about Kangana Ranaut. However, we did not find him talking about Nepali movies and Nepali cine artists.
Deepfake Analysis Unit ( DAU) which is part of Misinformation Combat Alliance ( MCA) also known as Trusted Information Alliance ( TIA), has analysed the viral video and found that as per the AI detection tool Hiya, there is a 96 percent probability that the audio track in the viral video is generated by Artificial Intelligence.
The DAU also passed the viral clip through Aurigin.ai. – which is a Swiss deep-tech company with an advanced audio deepfake detection engine. And as per this tool the viral clip is 100 percent AI generated.
“DAU also found some visual discrepancies as well in the viral clip. At around the two second mark, the anchor’s upper set of teeth seem to jump out of his mouth unnaturally, and Shahrukh’s upper set of teeth seem to disappear in various frames. In addition to this, their voices sound monotonous and devoid of change in pitch or tone,” the Aurigin,ai analysis read.
Our investigation and findings clearly indicate that the viral clip is a deepfake.
No, Shah Rukh Khan has neither said that he watches Nepali movies and likes Nepali cine artist Daya Hang Rai nor has he ever said that his favourite Nepali movie is ‘Kabaddi’. The viral video is deepfake.
