Claim
Street protestors try to break in Parliament entrance.
Fact
Viral video shows protestors staging a protest outside Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City.

A video allegedly showing irate protestors staging a protest and trying to enter the Parliament is going viral on TikTok.

TikTok user @kapil_khadka_1 posted a video showing a group of irate protestors staging a protest at an entrance in the presence of security personnel. Text superimposed on the video reads, “Protest movement has reached the Parliament from the street. Protests have begun across the country.”

The video posted on August 14 has garnered 9555 likes, 210 users have shared and 595 people have commented on it.
Newschecker found the claim to be misleading.

Fact Check /Verification

To check the authenticity of the claim made in the viral video, Newschecker split the video into several key frames and conducted Google reverse searches on them. The search threw up a few results matching the frame from the viral video.

On checking a video, dated August 10, 2024, posted on the Facebook page named Like News TV, we found that the video resembled the viral video clip. The post accompanying the video clearly indicated that the video showed the ongoing protest outside Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City after the Dharan Water Supply Management Board decided to increase drinking water tariff.

We also found another video, dated August 8, 2024, posted on the YouTube channel named Sang&Bin. On checking the video thoroughly, we noticed many resemblances with the viral video. Though the video was taken from a different angle, we noticed a protester climbing up to the gate in a sky-blue shirt and yelling at a security person in both the videos.

We also found an article, dated August 14, 2024, published on Kathmandu Post online about a joint protest by 10 political parties against hike in water tap installation charges.

The video was reported about the protest being staged outside Dharan Sub-metropolitan city against the increase in drinking water tariff.

Conclusion

No, the viral video doesn’t show protesters staging demonstrations on the street entering the parliament. The viral video shows the protest staged by 10 political parties against hike in drinking water tariff, and the protest has nothing to do with nationwide protest. Thus, the viral video is misleading.

Result: False
