Claim
Seven Gorkha soldiers killed while carrying out their duties in Jammu and Kashmir.
Fact
No, the viral claim is false.
As conflict between India and Pakistan have heated up with both the nuclear-armed neighbours exchanging missile strikes and engaged in air battles, many unverified videos and images are being shared online allegedly from the ongoing battle between the two countries.
Against this backdrop, a video claiming that seven Nepali Gorkha soldiers were killed in Jammu and Kashmir when they were hit by a missile launched by Pakistan is going viral on TikTok.
An estimated 32,000 Nepali Gorkhas soldiers currently serve in the Indian Army.
TikTok user @susilpoudel576 posted a video carrying a photo of India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Text superimposed on the video reads, “Seven Nepali Gorkha soldiers died while carrying out their duties at 1:09 am today (May 9) after they were hit by a missile launched by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir.” A melancholic song is played in the background.

The video posted earlier in the day has garnered 18.3k likes, 559 users have shared it and 779 people have commented until the last count.
The archived version of the TikTok video can be seen here.
Newschecker found the claim to be misleading.
Fact Check /Verification
To check the veracity of the claim, Newschecker searched the news reports of casualties in the ongoing conflict between India and Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir. However, we didn’t find any reports resembling the claim related to Gorkha soldiers.
We then looked up the official X (formerly) twitter page of Indian Army’s Additional Directorate General of Public Information, IHQ of MoD (Army) and checked for reports about the death of Nepali Gorkha soldiers in the conflict. But we didn’t find anything closely matching the claim.
We found a post, dated May 9, on the page that reads, “Pakistan Armed Forces launched multiple attacks using drones and other munitions along the entire Western Border on the intervening night of 08 and 09 May 2025. Pak troops also resorted to numerous cease fire violations (CFVs) along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir.”
The post claimed that drone attacks were effectively repulsed and a befitting reply was given to the CFVs.
Further, we found an article, dated May 9, 2025, published on the Telegraph online, which reported that Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar of the 5-Field Regiment was among the 13 persons killed in intense Pakistani shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch sector, quoting officials as saying on Thursday.
Thus, our findings showed that the claim made in the viral video is exaggerated as there are no reports of fatality of Nepali Gorkha soldiers in the ongoing conflict in Kashmir.
Conclusion
No, there is no report of death of Gorkha soldiers in the ongoing conflict in Jammu and Kashmir. The viral video is false.
Result: False
