Claim
RPP chief whip Gyanendra Shahi lashed out at Oli administration in English.
Fact
No, viral video is edited by laying a false audio on top.

A video allegedly showing Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) member of parliament (MP) Gyan Bahadur (Gyanendra) Shahi lashing out at KP Oli administration in English is going viral on TikTok.

TikTok user @gtmedianuwakot posted a video showing RPP chief whip Gyanendra Shahi speaking in the parliament. Text superimposed on the video reads, “Gyanendra Shahi has delivered a speech in a language understood by the world. Let everyone share it and make the world know who KP Sharma Oli is.” The video also carries photos of Rastriya Swatantra Party MP Rabi Lamichhane, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa. The viral clip also shows visuals of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman KP Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

In the 1:11-minute long video, Gyanendra Shahi is heard saying, “If you’re tagged with Oli government, you can walk freely in this country even if you rape someone. They have made a law in Nepal that allows you to take and imprison them. You can beat them based on what they say. When a former MP who is now in a position like an honourable minister is asked to shut up the IGP, he is given the post of minister and sent to the streets. This is the rule of law. And my demand is to make two speakers–one speaker of PM Oli and one speaker of the House of Representatives. Let’s also make two laws, one law. One law of KP Oli government, one law of our government, and one police of the KP government. Two government lawyers in this country: one KP Sharma Oli government and another government lawyer. Let’s do something or make two judges of the court. Such rule of law should die in one day. Today either all Nepalis should go to the tagline: We the cadres of the KP Sharma Oli rape, loot or whatever is allowed. The law doesn’t apply…”

The video posted on February 14 has garnered 38.6k likes, 2424 users have shared it and 1338 users have commented until the time of publishing this article.

Newschecker found the claim to be misleading.

Fact-Check /Verification

To check the veracity of the claim made in the viral video, Newschecker split the video into several key frames and ran reverse searches on it. A Google reverse search on a frame from the viral video threw up several results matching the viral video.

On checking an article, dated February 11, published on Kantipur Television website, we found that the image carried in the article matched the viral video. The article noted about RPP chief whip Gyan Bahadur (Gyanendra) Shahi’s criticism of the KP Oli led government. We noted that the purported English speech of Gyanendra Shahi matched the article titled ‘RPP Chief whip proposes enacting two separate laws for the country one for the country another for KP Oli administration.’

Further, we checked another video, dated February 11, 2025, posted on the YouTube channel named Mero Lagani, and found that the video clip showing Gyanendra Shahi and his words in Nepali language resembled the purported English speech of Gyanendra Shahi in the viral video.

We also checked another video posted on a YouTube channel named Vision Nepal HD. The video exactly matched the viral video. However, the video showed Gyanendra Shahi speaking in Nepali. The logo of House of Representatives on the top right corner of both the videos gave us the clue that the videos were taken from the YouTube channel of Nepal’s House of Representatives.

We also checked the audio for AI generated content using the tool named ConTrails AI via Deepfakes Analysis Unit. The tool confirmed that the audio is manipulated.

Thus, our findings clearly showed Rastriya Prajatantra Party MP Gyanendra Shahi lashed out at the Oli administration in Nepali, and not in English as claimed by the viral video.

Conclusion

No, the viral video doesn’t show Gyanendra Shahi criticising KP Oli administration in English language. The viral video is spread by laying on top a manipulated audio of Shahi’s speech in the Parliament.
