Newschecker found the claim to be false.
To check the veracity of the claim, Newschecker searched for the news about the shooting at former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’. However, the search didn’t yield any credible news in the major media outlets.
We then took a key frame from the viral video and ran a reverse search on Google. The results threw up several results matching the image carried in the viral video. On checking an article, dated August 1, 2025, posted on Onlinekhabr.com, we found that the image showed the gang members of Chakre Milan before their arrest from Sambala Hotel on July 28.
We came across another article, dated August 1, 2025, posted on Setopati online and found that the image carried in the article exactly resembled the frame from the viral video. The article reported about the arrest of Gurung and his gang members from Sambala Hotel in Kathmandu.
Newschecker found another article, dated August 8, 2025, posted on Kathmandu Post regarding the extension of custody of 19 people including gang leader Milan Gurung as police continue investigation into charges related to disrupting public order.
Further we checked the official website of Pushpa Kamal Dahal and his X handle. But we didn’t find anything related to the fire-arm attack on Prachanda.
Thus, our findings clearly showed that the viral claim is false.
No, former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has not been shot by gang members of Chakre Milan. The image carried in the viral video shows the attendees of a lavish birthday party of Gurung at a hotel in Kathmandu, thus the claim is false.
