Claim
Former Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has passed away.
Fact
Viral claim is False.
A video claiming that immediate past Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has passed away has gone viral on TikTok.
Deposed PM Oli had been flown to an army barrack following his resignation on September 9 after the Gen Z protest turned violent.
After spending nine days under Nepal Army security, Chairman Oli had moved to a rented apartment in Bhaktapur as the situation limped back to normalcy. His private residence in Balkot was also vandalized and torched by the protesters.
Against this backdrop, TikTok user @rajubsnet29 posted a video showing a street protest. The video carries footage of protest along with photos of KP Sharma Oli with text superimposed on it reading, “Heartfelt condolence. Former Prime Minister KP Oli is no more.” A person speaking on the video says, “Former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has died. The news of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s death has made the Gen Z Youth happy. A few weeks ago, the Gen Z youths torched his house and tried to kill him. But he managed to escape to Dubai after resigning as the prime minister. He returned to Kathmandu after the situation returned to normalcy and started living at a rented apartment in Kathmandu. But the Gen Z youths knew about it and came to his rented residence and picketed his house. In the meantime, Oli suffers a heart attack and he is rushed to Bir Hospital, where he dies.”
The video posted on September 23 has raked up 29.4k likes, 4366 users have shared 988 people have commented until the last count.

We also found a freshly published article, dated Oct 8, 2025, posted on popular Setopati online. The article reported that Oli, while addressing the district chairmen of the party through a virtual meeting, said that he has no intention to quit the party leadership anytime soon.
Further, we reached out to Kiran Poudel, public relations aide to Oli, who confirmed that Oli is alive and has been busy in regular meetings and consultation with party cadres. “The information about spread on social media is false,” Poudel noted.
