Claim
Former Prime Minister Oli convicted of crime against humanity.
Fact
The viral claim is false. KP Sharma Oli has not been convicted by an international court for crimes against humanity.
A video claiming that the International Court has convicted former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli for crimes against humanity and sentenced him to death is going viral on TikTok.
The video is going viral at a time when the commission led by Gauri Bahadur Karki formed to investigate the killings and other violent incidents during the Gen Z protests of September 8–9 has started recording the statements of former inspector general of Nepal Police Chandra Kuber Khapung and former home secretary Gokarna Mani Duwadi.
Against this backdrop, TikTok user @rabilamichhane113 posted a video carrying photos of a foreign judge and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Text superimposed on the video reads, “International court has issued a historic verdict. Former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has been convicted of “crime against humanity” and sentenced to death.”
The video also carries a news article that reads, “The International Court has convicted former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli of “crime against humanity” and sentenced him to death. The security has been tightened after the court verdict. The government has directed all its agencies to abide by the public order.” A speech of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane, who is in custody in cooperative fraud cases, is played in the background.

The video posted on December 1 has garnered 987 likes, 130 people have commented and 61 users have shared it.

Newschecker found the claim to be false.
To check the veracity of the claim, Newschecker ran searches to find if any case has been lodged against KP Sharma Oli at International court. But we did not find any credible report.
We then took a key frame from the viral video and ran reverse search on it. A Google reverse search on the frame showing the purported judge of the international court led us to a few news articles carrying the photo resembling the viral video.
On checking an article, dated August 29, 2025, posted on NBC News, we found that the image carried in the viral video matched a frame of the video carried in the article. The article clearly indicated that the image carried in the viral video depicted Frank Caprio, a retired municipal judge who found online fame as an empathetic jurist.
Further, we found an article, dated August 21, 2025, posted on Telegrafi online. The image carried in the viral video exactly matched the image of the purported judge of an “international court”.

Thus, our findings clearly indicated images carried in the viral video are unrelated and the claim is exaggerated and false.
No, KP Sharma Oli has not been convicted by an international court for crimes against humanity. The viral claim is exaggerated, and thus is false.
