Claim
Manish Jha was appointed Home Minister after Gurung landed in controversy.
Fact
No new minister has been appointed after Sudan Gurung resigned as Home Minister.
A video claiming that Rastriya Swatantra Party MP Manish Jha has been appointed as Home Minister has gone viral on TikTok.
The video was shared on TikTok shortly after Sudan Gurung came under scrutiny amid mounting controversy over his investment in the stock market and alleged links to controversial businessmen. Gurung resigned as Home Minister on April 22 to ensure a “fair investigation” of his financial affairs.
Against this backdrop, TikTok user @fanpage.com81 posted a video carrying photos of Rastriya Swatantra Party Member of Parliament (MP) Manish Jha. Text superimposed on the video reads, “Best wishes for a successful tenure. Congratulations to new Home Minister Manish Jha.”

The video posted on April 20 has garnered 40.6k likes, 693 users have commented and 1085 people have shared until the last count.
Newscheker found the claim to be misleading.
To check the veracity of the claim, we searched for news regarding the appointment of new Home Minister after the resignation of Sudan Gurung. However, the search did not yield any credible reports to back the claim.
We found several news reports (See here, here & here) confirming that Prime Minister Balendra Shah will take care of the Home Minister until a new appointment.
We then checked the website of the Home Ministry and found a mug shot of Prime Minister Balendra Shah on the details of the line minister updated on April 22.
We also checked the verified Facebook page of RSP MP Manish Jha. But we did not find any update regarding his appointment as Home Minister. If Jha was appointed as Home Minister, it would definitely have made a big headline. Another discrepancy is that the video was posted two days before Gurung resigned as Home Minister.
Thus our findings clearly showed that Manish Jha had not been appointed home minister until the time of publishing this article at 7pm on April 23.
No, Manish Jha has not been appointed as Home Minister. The viral video claiming that Jha has been appointed as Home Minister two days before Gurung’s resignation is false.
