Claim
Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal visited the people injured during the Gen Z protest in hospital.
Fact
Viral video shows Prachanda visiting his party’s student leader Chandra Bhatt
In the wake of political turmoil in Nepal after the Gen Z protest, several old and unrelated videos are being shared online with misleading claims.
Against this backdrop, a video allegedly showing former Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Chairman) Pushpa Kamal Dahal went to meet the people injured during the Gen S Protest on September 8 and 9 is going viral on TikTok.
TikTok user @madhavaryal26 posted a video showing Pushpa Kamal Dahal arriving at a hospital and meeting a patient in a hospital bed. Text superimposed on the video reads “We were wondering where Prachanda has gone? He is busy meeting the people injured during the protest in hospital. I think it is clear now.”
The video posted on September 11 has garnered 36k likes, 4419 users have shared it and 2432 people have commented. The archived version of the TikTok video can be seen here.
Newschecker found the claim to be false.
To check the veracity, News checker took several key frames from the viral video and ran reverse searches on them. The search, however, did not yield any relevant results.
Further, we ran searches on Facebook by using several relevant keywords and found a video, resembling the viral video, dated July 31, posted on the verified Facebook page of Roshan Thapa Magar. On checking the video, we found the video exactly matched the viral video. The video caption reads, “Respected Party Chairman Comrade ‘Prachanda has inquired about the health condition of Comrade Ram Chandra Bhatt, who was seriously injured in the brutal attack in Kanchanpur. His health is gradually improving.”
Thus, the video caption clearly indicated that it was from July and the video shows Chairman Dahal meeting his party’s student leader Chandra Bhatt.
Further, we ran a search on Google by using Nepali keywords “Prachanda went to meet Chandra Bhatt at hospital” and found several articles carrying images bearing resemblance to the viral video. On checking an article, dated July 31, published on Dineshkhabar online, we found that Dahal went to meet Maoist aligned revolutionary student union leader Ram Chandra Bhatt, who was injured in an attack in Kanchanpur district.
We also found an article, dated July 31, 2025, posted on Ratopati online which carried an image matching the viral video. The article noted that Dahal went to Annapurna Neuro Hospital in Kathmandu to inquire about the health condition of Chandra Bhatt. He was injured after being hit by a stone during a discussion regarding student union elections at Far West University, the article reported.
Thus, our findings clearly show that the viral video shows an old clip of Maoist Chairman Dahal visiting his party student leader.
No, the viral video doesn’t show Maoist Chairman Dahal visiting the people injured during the protest staged by the Gen Z movement on September 8 and 9. The viral clip is old and shared with misleading captions.
