Claim
Kulman Ghising said he can wipe out Rabi Lamichhane if he wishes so.
Fact
Viral video is shared with a misleading caption.
A video claiming that Ujyalo Nepal Party Chief Kulman Ghising boasted that his party could wipe out Rastriya Swatantra Party Chairman Rabi Lamichhane if they wish is going viral on TikTok.
The video was shared in the wake of the split of the Ujyalo Nepal Party (UNP) from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP). Former minister in the interim government formed in the wake of the September Gen Z uprising, Kulman Ghising, who was the patron of Ujyalo Nepal Party, has returned to lead the party. Ghising was credited for ending decades of crippling load-shedding when he was the managing director of Nepal Electricity Authority.
Against this backdrop, TikTok user @bibas263 posted a video showing Kulman Ghising speaking in an interview. In the video, Ghising is heard saying, “In fact, if we have formed a political party on September 11 [two days after the Gen Z protest September 8 & 9], this Rastriya Swatantra Party’s name would not come, Ujyalo Nepal Party would have taken off. We had no idea about the real structure of the Rastriya Swatantra Party. We now know their standings. That’s why I don’t want to talk about it at length. I don’t put the entire blame on them [RSP]. I extend my best wishes to them. We will also support their prime ministerial candidate Balendra Shah. I also extend my good wishes to Rabi Lamichhane that he take the party to a new height.”
Text superimposed on the video reads, “We can wipe out Rabi [RSP Chair Rabi Lamichhane] if we want to do so.”

The video posted on January 13 has garnered 13.5k likes, 717 users have shared it and 1934 people have commented until the last count.
To check the veracity of the claim, Newschecker closely observed the video and noticed the logo of Nepal’s popular Kantipur Television on the top right corner of the screen. Taking a clue, we looked up the YouTube channel of Kantipur Television and found a video, dated January 12, posted on the channel. On checking the video showing an interview of Ghising by the Editor-in-chief of Kantipur daily, we found that the video clip from 5:21-minute onwards exactly matched the viral clip.
We checked the entire video and did not find any instance of Ghising making such a statement that his party could wipe out RSP Chair Lamichhane if they wished so.
Further, we searched the reports and videos of Ghising making any statement as claimed in the caption of the viral video but did not find anything remotely close to what the viral video reviewed in this fact-check suggested.
Thus, our findings clearly indicated that the viral video showed a clip of Ghising’s interview to Kantipur Television after he broke away from the Rastriya Swatantra Party, and that the text superimposed on the video is exaggerated and thus misleading.
No, UNP Chief Kulman Ghising, in his interview to Kantipur TV after he broke away from RSP, did not say that his party could wipe out RSP if they wished so. The viral clip is shared with a misleading caption.
