A viral video claiming that former Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has been hospitalized after both of his kidneys descended from normal position is going viral on TikTok.
Chairman Oli is contesting the House of Representatives elections from Jhapa constituency-5. Former mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leader Balendra Shah ‘Balen’ is also running for the elections from the same constituency. Balen has been projected as the prime ministerial candidate of RSP.
Against this backdrop, TikTok user @dinesh1230999 posted a video showing a photo of KP Sharma Oli in a hospital bed with an oxygen mask alongside. A clip of a news anchor is also attached in the video. Text superimposed on the video reads, “Breaking News: KP Oli’s health has not improved. Doctors say he won’t survive even after a kidney transplant. He is receiving medical attention at Durga Prasain’s hospital after his kidney descended during an election campaign. Let us all pray for him.”
Audio accompanying the video says, “A very sad news. KP Oli had an issue with both of his kidneys while doing a door-to-door campaign in Jhapa-5. It has been learnt that Oli has been admitted to B & C hospital in Birtamod, Jhapa.”
The video posted on February 9 has garnered 16.6k likes, 1332 users have shared it and 1883 people have commented until the last count.

Newschecker found the claim to be false.
Fact Check /Verification
To check the veracity of the claim, Newschecker checked the latest news about KP Sharma Oli and his election campaign. However, we did not find a single report about his hospitalisation.
We then checked the latest news report about KP Sharma Oli and found a recent news article, dated February 11, posted on Khabarhub online. The article confirmed that CPN-UML Chairman Oli, who is running for a seat from Jhapa Constituency-5, is scheduled to participate in 11 programs in eastern Gauradaha of Jhapa today itself.
We also looked up the verified Facebook page of KP Sharma Oli and found that he has been actively posting on his social media platform. In a post on Tuesday, he called on the CPN-UML candidates to tell the people about the tasks carried out by the party and patiently listen to the voters.
Further, we tried to reach out and send a message to KP Oli’s personal aide Rajesh Bajracharya to enquire about his current status. However, we did not receive any response.
Thus, our findings clearly indicated that Oli is healthy and attending programs in Jhapa as part of his election campaign.
Conclusion
No, KP Sharma Oli has not been hospitalised due to his Kidney issues. He is actively participating in election campaigns in various places. The viral video is false.
