Claim
Chairman of newly unified Nepali Communist Party Prachanda said the name of the newly formed party is Bharatiya Communist Party.
Fact
Viral video is edited.
A video allegedly showing Chairman of newly unified Nepali Communist Party Pushpa Kamal Dahal aka ‘Prachanda’ saying that the name of the unified party is Bharatiya Communist Party is going viral on TikTok.
Ten communist parties including Dahal-led CPN (Maoist Centre) and Madhav Kumar Nepal led CPN (Unified Socialist) have announced party unification amid a function organised in Kathmandu on Wednesday (November 5). They have formed the unified Nepali Communist Party under the leadership of Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who was chairman of the Maoist Centre.
Against this backdrop, TikTok user @publicvoice25 posted a video allegedly showing Pushpa Kamal Dahal announcing the name of a new party. In the video Dahal is heard saying, “We have agreed on the name of the party as Bharatiya Communist Party.” Text superimposed on the video reads, “Do you understand the relationship of Prachanda and Rabi [Chairman of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP)] whether they are Nepali or Indian? What is their mission?”
The video also carries photos of Dahal, Rabi Lamichhane, incumbent Prime Minister Sushila Karki and Kathmandu Metropolitan City mayor Balendra Shah attired in an outfit resembling India’s national flag.

The video posted on November 5 has garnered 637 likes, 248 users have shared it and 87 people have commented until the last count.
The archived version of the video can be seen here.
Newschecker found the claim to be edited.
To check the veracity of the claim, Newschecker took several key frames from the viral video and ran reverse searches on them. A Google reverse search led us to a video, dated November 4, 2025, posted on official X (formerly twitter) of popular media Onlinekhabar. On checking the video, we found that the clip from 7:00 minute onwards exactly matched the first few seconds of the video.
However, in the video Dahal gets stuck and checks in with the people in the background whether the party’s name can be announced before the official merger programme. He goes on to clarify that there were many concerns regarding the name of the party. He says, “The party’s name will be Nepali Communist Party.” He explains that China doesn’t say China communist party but Chiniya communist party and Bharat doesn’t say Bharat Communist party but Bharatiya Communist Party.”
The onlinekhabar video caption noted that the video showed Dahal reading out the merger agreement paper in the last meeting of UCPN (Maoist Centre).
Further, we found another video, dated November 4, 2025, posted on the YouTube channel named DC explainer. The video from the last UCPN (Maoist Centre) meeting held on the eve of the unification of 10 communist parties showed Prachanda reading out the agreement that finalised the unification of ten different communist parties, including his own CPN (Maoist Centre) and the CPN (Unified Socialist), to form the new Nepali Communist Party. He didn’t say the party’s name will be Bharatiya Communist party.
Thus, our findings show that the viral video was edited while Dahal revealed the name of the unified communist party during the last meeting of UCPN (Maosit Centre) before the unification programme.
No, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ didn’t say the name of the united party will be Bharatiya Communist Party. The viral video is edited in a misleading manner.
