Claim
Balen administration has introduced a policy requiring the civil employees to enroll their children in public schools.
Fact
The government has not made such a decision, the viral claim is false.
A video claiming that the new government headed by Rastriya Swatantra Party leader Balendra Shah ‘Balen’ has made it compulsory for civil employees to send their children to government schools is going viral on TikTok.
The video was going viral even as the government completed a month in the office.
Against this backdrop, TikTok user @milonsenthakuree posted a video showing visuals of Prime Minister Balendra Shah, Rastriya Swatantra Party Chairman Rabi Lamichhane, schools children and Cabinet meetings. Audio accompanying the video presented in a news reporting style says, “Another miraculous work of the Balen administration. The civil employees should compulsorily send their children to a government school. Dear viewers, the Balen administration has shown indication to bring about historic achievement in education. The Balen administration set to introduce a law making it mandatory for government officials to send their children to community school. Prime Minister Balendra Shah and Education Minister Sashmit Pokharel have taken historic initiatives to bring quality education. The ministers are planning to bring a new system to make it compulsory for the civil employees to enroll their children in government school.”
Text superimposed on the video reads, “From now on, government employees must send their children to community schools. Balen administration cabinet.”

The video posted on April 20 has garnered 62.9k likes, 3174 users have shared it and 1787 people have commented until the last count.
Newschecker found the claim to be misleading.
To check the veracity of the claim, Newschecker ran an extensive search for news regarding the government decision to make it mandatory for civil employees to enroll their children in community schools. However, the search didn’t yield any credible news reports about the new RSP government regarding school admission.
We also searched for the news regarding the major decisions made by the government in the past one month after its formation. But we didn’t find any reference to support the claim that the government has introduced a policy making it mandatory for government employees to send their kids to government schools.
Likewise, we came across a news article, dated March 28, posted on Nepal News online that the government unveiled a plan to remove party-affiliated student organisations from schools and universities as part of its 100-point work plan approved by Cabinet after Balen Shah assumed office as prime minister.
As reported by My Republica the Ministry of Education is considering removing the existing party-based student structures within 60 days and replacing them with what the government describes as non-partisan platforms such as “student councils” or “voice of students” within 90 days.
Rather, we found a news article, dated April 5, 2026, published on My Republica online regarding the Education Ministry’s directive on new admission and commencement of new academic calendar from April 28 [Baisakh 15].
We then looked up the website of the Ministry of Education to see if there were any notices or statements on the policy making it mandatory for government employees to enroll their children in community schools. However, we did not find any relevant notices or statements.
On digging further, we rather found old news reports that certain municipalities in Nepal such as Badimalika Municipality in Bajura district, Paiyu Rural Municipality in Parbat, and Suryadhaya Municipality in Ilam had introduced such policies in the past (See here, here & here). But the federal government has not made such a decision binding the civil employees to educate their children in public schools.
Thus, our findings clearly showed that the government has not introduced any policy requiring the civil servants to enroll their children in community schools.
No, the government has not made any decision making it mandatory for government employees to enroll their kids in a community school. The viral claim is exaggerated and thus, misleading.
