Claim
The National Examinations Board has cancelled grade 12 board exams.
 Fact
 No, viral video is misleading.

Even as the community school teachers continue staging protests on the streets, several videos claiming that the National Examinations Board (NEB) has cancelled grade 12 exams slated to begin from April 24 is going on Tiktok.

Thousands of school teachers have been staging street protests in Kathmandu for the past three weeks, demanding that the upcoming School Education Act include provisions addressing their concerns and the past agreements.

Against this backdrop, TikTok user @jagat.bhul6 posted a video showing visuals of school students and the office National Examinations Board. Text superimposed on the video reads, “A must-watch video,   Grade 12 exam slated to begin from 24 April has been cancelled. Predicament of the students.” Audio accompanying the video presented in a news bulletin style says, “The National Examinations Board has cancelled the grade 12 exams, and the exams will be held after the situation returns to normalcy. The board has also stated that the rescheduled exam will be publicized 15 before the exam.”

The video posted on April 22 has garnered 7953 likes and 1556 users have shared it. The archived version of the TikTok video can be seen here.

Another TikTok user @nishuuu051 posted a video showing students celebrating in their class room. Audio accompanying the video says that the National Examinations Board has cancelled the Class 12 examination. We found that the audio accompanying both the videos is the same.

The video posted on April 12 has garnered 23.8 likes, 5447 users have liked it and 400 people have commented until the last count.

Rumors are making the rounds that the grade 12 exams will be cancelled owing to the ongoing strike of teachers and the resignation of Education Minister Bidhya Bhattarai.

Newschecker found the claim to be misleading.

Fact Check /Verification

To check the veracity of the claim, Newschecker looked up the official website of National Examinations Board (www.neb.gov.np) and found a notice, dated April 18, posted on the website. The notice read, “The National Examinations Board’s serious attention has been drawn towards the misinformation that the Grade 12 exams slated for April 24 have been cancelled.”

The NEB has also urged the students not to be misled by such false information and rely on the official notice of NEB and continue their preparations for the exam.

Further, we found another news article published earlier in the day by onlinekhabar.com regarding the NEB’s decision not to cancel the grade 12 exams. The news quoted NEB Chairman Mahashram Sharma telling after a board meeting that the grade 12 exams will be held as per the schedule.

Earlier in April 2021, the NEB had postponed the final examination of grade 12 after the resurgence of Covid-19 cases across the country.
