TikTok user @maya.reaction shared a video with two clips: one claims Dangol quit CPN-UML to support Mayor Balendra Shah, while the other features Dangol saying she had already made her commitment and encouraged candidates nationwide to be independent and work with parties, highlighting her early advocacy for local development.

Origin of the Viral Video
Sunita Dangol was elected as deputy mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City on a CPN-UML ticket, while mayor Balen Shah ran as an independent candidate in the local body election held in May 2022.
The video in question shows Sunita Dangol making a public statement. A key-phrase search for “Sunita Dangol deputy mayor commitment” led to a YouTube video from April 25, 2022, on Setopati Online, which matches the viral clip exactly during the segment where Dangol is speaking. We found that the video footage from 2:36-minute to 2:53-minute exactly matched the clip showing Dangol speaking.
Another matching video was found on Sunaulo Nepal TV, also dated April 25, 2022. The footage from 15:14-minute onwards exactly matched the viral clip.
Context of the Video
The original footage is from April 2022, when Dangol was speaking to the media after filing her candidacy for the deputy mayoral post of Kathmandu on a CPN-UML ticket.
There is no mention or indication in the original video that she was quitting the party or expressing support for Mayor Balendra Shah.
Current Political Status
Sunita Dangol remains the Deputy Mayor of Kathmandu, elected on a CPN-UML ticket, and there is no credible report or official statement confirming her resignation from the party or a shift in allegiance to Mayor Shah.

Our findings indicate that this video is from April 2022 and shows Dangol speaking to the media after filing her candidacy, not announcing her resignation or support for the mayor.
